Since its foundation in 1990, the Japanese Society of Pharmaceutical Health Care and Sciences (JSPHCS) has grown alongside the increasing demand for pharmacists in health care, driven by the diversification and complexity of drug therapy and the progression toward a society with fewer children and an aging population. Today, the Society has become the largest interdisciplinary academic organization in the field of pharmaceutical health care and sciences in Japan.
Professionals in the pharmaceutical sciences directly related to health care come together to gather high-quality evidence for pharmacists to provide science-based drug therapy. The Society also works to establish, advance, and disseminate pharmaceutical health care and sciences as an academic discipline, while contributing to the development of Japan’s academic culture and the improvement of public welfare.
Membership in the Society has increased every year and now exceeds 14,000 members with a diverse composition that includes pharmacists in hospitals and community pharmacies, faculty and students at pharmaceutical universities, and personnel from pharmaceutical companies. With more than 1,400 general presentations at the annual meeting, the JSPHCS has grown into an academic society that represents the field of pharmaceutical health care and sciences in Japan in both name and reality.
